Program Length: 60 minutes

Audience: Schools, Museums, Community Centers, Environmental Organizations, and Art Enthusiasts

Cost per classroom: $450 (includes all materials)

Program Can Serve: 25 participants

Program Overview

This immersive program blends artistic creativity with environmental science, guiding participants in sculpting with natural clay and soil while learning composting techniques to enhance soil fertility and support native plant habitats.

Participants will engage in hands-on soil and clay-based sculpture-making, discovering how soil health, erosion, and sustainability are vital to the environment. Through this experience, they will foster both personal expression and ecological stewardship, reconnecting with the natural world through art and regenerative practices.

Program Objectives

Participants will:

Create Soil & Clay-Based Art

  • Learn to craft sculptures and carvings using natural clay and soil, exploring textures and forms inspired by ecological and cultural narratives.

  • Experiment with natural materials such as leaves, stones, and plant imprints to create tactile, nature-inspired designs.

  • Explore how soil carries the history of landscapes, erosion, and renewal through hands-on storytelling.

Understand Composting Techniques

  • Gain practical knowledge of composting methods to enrich soil nutrients, improve soil structure, and support native plant habitats.

  • Participate in a composting demonstration, breaking down organic materials and discussing how decomposition returns nutrients to the earth.

  • Learn about the role of soil, microorganisms, and organic matter in maintaining healthy ecosystems.

Promote Environmental Stewardship

  • Explore the connection between art, ecology, and sustainability, fostering a deeper appreciation for soil health and native ecosystems.

  • Discuss the impact of erosion and land degradation and how composting, habitat restoration, and sustainable practices contribute to a healthier planet.

  • Understand how soil and clay-based art can be used in educational spaces, gardens, and community projects to inspire environmental awareness.
